Eight pages pencilled! Now time for a few more inking tests. I knew going into this project that it would be a lot of work but, holy crap is it ever. I’ve redrawn several panels multiple times, re-worked every page and re-drawn a few. I totally re-designed space suits, altered the story and I’m only halfway there. This is something that I’ve always wanted to do and yet stopped short on so many occasions. I wish I pushed myself harder in those times but to tell the truth I wasn’t ready. I feel comfortable creating an image that is going to be embellished by text. I don’t know what that is, I guess I’ve always liked creating things that look professional and slick. Why go halfway? I always seem to go that extra mile when doing this kind of stuff. Even in this project I tried to make a more simple (and easy to reproduce) set of characters and scenery, which I later scrapped and decided to add more detail. It just didn’t feel right not noodling over my drawings, kind of like “phoning it in” as they say. I don’t want to give away the story just yet so I’ve been reluctant to show my progress and non-photo blue pencil is hard to photograph go figure. As it stands I’ll probably have to print out new blue lines to ink on since the eraser wasn’t all that kind to my Bristol (hopefully they scan well). Here’s a peek.
